This week, I have been testing out my writing ability by exploring Haiku and Photoku. I would like to say that Dr. Beth Frye is the poetry queen! She has so much passion for poetry (Haiku included!). I have been inspired by her love for nature as well as her own Haiku composition. My Haiku is about a horse I saw while taking an evening walk. I did not know this horse, but he trotted from behind the hill to greet me.

Evening Greeting
Calmly he trotted
Before golden hour passed
To tell me hello.

I love the simplicity of writing Haiku poetry, but also its underlying complexity. I thought writing Haikus would be easy-peasy-lemon-squeazy, but it turned out to be a little more difficult. I think this is a great way to get students thinking critically about observations in nature. It can provide opportunities to get outdoors and learn actively. I also think writing Haiku poetry would be a great way to get students writing after a field trip. Integration possibilities are endless!
